Experience Lent with a New Understanding of The Last Supper
As 21st century Christians, you are invited to discover Jesus within the context of first-century Judaism. It is through this Jewish lens that Jesus celebrated the Last Supper. It is through this Jewish lens that the Eucharist is understood. A retreat format utilizing a Zoom platform will be presented by Sister Lucy Zientek, CDP, on Friday, March 19, from 7-9 pm, and Saturday, March 20, from 10 am-4:30 pm. Over these two days, Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah, the new Exodus, the new Passover, and the “4th cup” at the crucifixion of Jesus will be explored.
Dr. Brant Pitre’s, book “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist: Unlocking the Secrets of the Last Supper” (2011, 2016) is a companion resource for this retreat. Research for his book is supported by Dr. Pitre’s in-depth scholarship in languages, scripture, and Jewish culture. If you choose to read the book (optional), it is a spell-binder. So, be ready to not put it down.
The retreat content and meditative prayer offered in this retreat can enhance Holy Week in a singularly profound way. Those who have heard this presentation by Sister Lucy and read Dr. Pitre’s book have been deeply moved by the understanding of the sacred acts and events, and moved to new ways of seeing and celebrating Eucharist. One person stated that, “Eucharist is now one of the most intimate experiences in my life…radically changed.”
