Our Savior Parish

Our Savior Parish is a small predominately African American Catholic church which opened in 1943 with a small school for Black students under the direction of the Sisters of Divine Providence. The school remained until desegregation took place in the 1960's. The church remained a mission of the Cathedral until it became an official parish in 1981. In 2002 Our Savior entered into a "Cluster" partnership with Mother of God Parish in order to ensure the continuity of ministry into the future.

Our first goal is to meet the spiritual needs of our African American Catholic community but much outreach is done in the larger community. We struggle to bring our family "home" to a welcoming worship, providing for African American roots, with celebrations that are truly Black and Catholic. We are called to be a new visible force in today's world and church of the New Millennium.
