support local immigrants

In his message for the 111th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, Pope Leo XIV said, “Migrants and refugees remind the Church of her pilgrim dimension, perpetually journeying towards her final homeland, sustained by a hope that is a theological virtue.”

In unity with that message, the Intercommunity Sisters Peace & Justice Committee is offering an opportunity to show your support for the humane and dignified treatment of immigrants and refugees in our community on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, at St. Mary's Park across from the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, 1140 Madison Ave., Covington, KY. This Catholic public witness is purposely being held on the feast of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, the patron saint of immigrants.

As Catholics and people of deep faith, we reject the culture of fear and silence that dehumanizes, and we choose instead to stand with migrants to remind them: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

We invite you to:
  • Pray in solidarity with those detained and at risk for deportation.
  • Reflect on how you can lift up the dignity of migrants and reject the culture of fear and silence that dehumanize.
  • Take the Cabrini Pledge to be a keeper of hope.
If you would like to make a sign for this event, here is some suggested wording:
  • "Praying with our world, our church, and our immigrant sisters and brothers"
  • "Our Cathedral was built by immigrants"
  • "Celebrating the Feast of St Frances Cabrini, patron of immigrants"
  • "I was a stranger and you welcomed me"
