restored chalice gifted to fr. comer

In March, we told you about a chalice that Vic Canfield discovered in a safe at the rectory. It was heavily tarnished and stored in a box along with a note from Fr. Hartman saying it could possibly be cleaned up and used again. There was no indication of whom the chalice belonged to or who donated it to Mother of God.

Canfield had the chalice restored. It is ornate, with intricate engraving and gemstones, including amethysts and garnets. It was created around 1900 by the W.D. Smith Silver Company in Chicago and is in excellent shape.

There has since been an update to the story. Parish Pastoral Council approved a motion to gift the chalice to Fr. Comer. It will belong to him for as long as he lives, and then it will be returned to the parish. Be sure to take note of it when you are at Mass.
