St. Faustina Kowalska

One of the most important saints of the 20th century is St. Faustina Kowalska. She was a Polish nun who had many visions of Christ. He revealed Himself to her under the title of Divine Mercy. He instructed her to have a portrait painted of Him standing, with His left hand pointed at His heart and His right hand raised in blessing.

From His heart come two rays, one white and one red, symbolizing the blood and water which flowed from His side in the crucifixion. These rays, in turn, represent the Eucharist and the waters of baptism, by which our sins are forgiven, and we are saved.

St. Faustina’s feast day is this Monday, Oct. 5.
