The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Scripture does not tell us of the presentation of Mary, but early non-Biblical writings do give us the story. When Mary was still a young girl (stories differ at what age) Joachim and Anne, her mother and father, brought her to the Temple, and she was presented to the High Priest, consecrating her life to God. One of the windows on the Eastern side of Mother of God Church shows her going up the steps of the Temple to the High Priest. Her parents are there with her.
Mary, of course, lived out this consecration throughout her life, symbolized by her words at the Annunciation, “Let it be done to me according to your word.” Her presentation also pre-figures our baptisms, when we too were consecrated to Christ.
The Feast of the Presentation of Mary is on Friday, Nov. 21.

St. Cecilia
St. Cecilia was a young woman who lived in Rome during the 2nd century. She is considered the patron saint of music and of musicians. She was martyred during one of the early persecutions of the Church. We have a window of St. Cecilia, playing the organ (even though the organ was not invented until long after her death). The problem is that it is in my bedroom, so it is not visible to anyone except for me and my facility manager, and the person who cleans the rectory.
Saturday, Nov. 22, is the Feast of St. Cecilia.
