St. Kateri Tekakwitha

Kateri Tekakwitha was a young Mohawk woman who joined the Catholic Church at great cost to herself. She was rejected by many in her tribe, including many of her family. She was a woman of deep prayer, who took a vow of perpetual virginity and moved into a Jesuit community in what is now upstate New York. Kateri became known as the Lily of the Mohawks.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Usually, a feast that begins, “Our Lady of …” indicates an apparition of the Blessed Mother. That is not the case of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Rather it is a feast recognizing the founding of the Carmelite Order, who took their name from Mound Carmel, in Israel, where they founded the first Carmelite Monastery and dedicated the order to the patronage of the Blessed Mother.
The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is Wednesday, July 16.
