Jesus had disciples who did not travel around with Him. They made up what is today called the “Domestic Church.” They remained in their homes, living out His teachings, and being local witnesses to Him. Among these were Martha, Mary and Lazarus, whose home seems to have been a refuge for Jesus, where He experienced joy and peace and love. Seeing Martha’s commitment to hospitality, I am sure that He also enjoyed a good meal, and easy-going friendship.
    
This family experienced conflict (Martha and Mary in the kitchen), terrible loss at the death of Lazarus, and glorious blessing, as they saw their brother, four days dead, walk out of the tomb. They also became a target of Jesus’ enemies, who wanted to kill Lazarus, as he was proof of the power of Jesus.
    
May each of our homes be a domestic church, consecrated to Jesus Christ, in which He is welcomed, celebrated, and loved.

We celebrate their feast day on July 29.

St. Ignatius, along with six other priests, was the founder of the Jesuit Order, also known as the Society of Jesus.  They have served the Church for centuries as missionaries and as teachers. His feast day is Friday, July 31.
