Mardi gra was a bead-dazzled celebration
Instead of Fat Tuesday, Mother of God celebrate "Fat Sunday" on March 2 in one last alleluia before Lent began. The church hall was filled with revelers in what Fr. Mike Comer called the biggest response to an event we've had since he's been pastor. There was plenty to eat and drink, including homemade gumbo, beans and rice, and chicken tenders for the less adventurous. Dessert was king cake, and anyone who found a baby in their portion received a scratch-off lottery ticket with 10 chances to win big money. Guests could also test their knowledge of Mardi Gras trivia. Deacon Brian Cox displayed some sharp moves as he led the parade to the buffet line to the strains of "When the Saints Go Marchin' In."
