Last week I began a series of sermons on the Mass. The first session asked the question, “Where did the Mass come from?” The answer was that the Mass as we know it is a combination of the Jewish Synagogue Service and the early Christian celebration of the Lord’s Supper. We also noted the four ways in which Christ is present in every Mass. He is present in the assembly, the priest, the Word, and in the Eucharist.
   
This week we will take a look at the beginning of the Mass, including the Entrance Procession, the Sign of the Cross, the Greeting, and the Penitential Rite.
