Mother of God Church recently hosted a wonderful presentation celebrating the incredible sacred art that surrounds us every time we walk through our church doors. The Diocese of Covington selected Mother of God for this special evening because of our church's rich artistic and historical heritage—and what a great choice it was!

Our presenter was Dr. Cecelia Dorger, a nationally respected expert in sacred art, particularly Marian art. After teaching art history at Mount St. Joseph University for 28 years, she now shares her expertise at Mount St. Mary's Seminary and School of Theology in Cincinnati. She also writes a regular column for The Catholic Telegraph on how sacred art can deepen our prayer life and, in 2024, co-authored the beautiful book, Universal Mother, with artist Holly Schapker.

For the next hour, with more than 150 people in attendance, Dr. Dorger guided us through the fascinating stories behind our magnificent stained-glass windows, the paintings, the statuary, and the artwork throughout the church, from the walls to the ceiling and into the sanctuary.

If you're wondering why so many people in the photos are looking straight up, they were following Dr. Dorger's enthusiastic presentation as she expertly highlighted one artistic treasure after another—laser pointer in hand, of course. It's amazing how many beautiful details we pass by every week without realizing the stories they tell.

Following the presentation, everyone gathered in the undercroft for light hors d'oeuvres and the opportunity to visit personally with Dr. Dorger. It was a delightful way to end a truly inspiring evening filled with learning, fellowship, and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of our parish home.
