spread the light of christ

Last Sunday I announced a new goal for Mother of God Church. On Holy Saturday we received 15 men and women into the Church. Seven were baptized. Eight others were already baptized but came into full communion with the Church.
That was three times the number at any Easter Vigil since I became your pastor nine years ago. We do not take credit for this. The Holy Spirit is responsible for all conversions. But He uses us as His instruments.
The goal I would like to see us achieve for next year is 30 new Catholics. That may sound bold, but I believe God wants to see all people come to Him and come into His Church.
As He prepared to ascend to the Father, Jesus gave the Church His Great Commission. “Go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to carry out all I have commanded you, and know that I am with you to the end of the age.”
Making disciples is the work of every Christian. He sends us all out. As I have said, that is the message of the Great Sending at the end of Mass. “Go!”
The first thing we do is pray. Ask God to show you who He wants you to focus on. That may be an individual or a family member. Begin praying for them every day. Perhaps say a decade of the rosary. Ask God to send the Holy Spirit upon them. Ask the Blessed Mother to pray for them and to lead them to her Son. Ask to be shown how you can help them find their way to God. Talk to God about your friend before you talk to your friend about God.
I will regularly give suggestions for how to reach out and invite someone to come to Christ and to His Church.
