pray for pope leo XIV

The Inauguration Mass for Pope Leo XIV was scheduled for 10 am, Rome time. That would have been 4 am for us. I hope that some of you watched, or DVRed the Mass. Presumably, it will be a very long time before we will see another conclave and inauguration of a pope. I am sure that it will be shown again on EWTN, and it will be available on YouTube.
We continue to rejoice in the new pontiff whom God has given to the Church. The fact that he is from the United States of America and is a citizen of both the US and Peru is an additional reason for rejoicing and giving thanks.
Please pray for Pope Leo and ask the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen him and fill him with wisdom and holiness.

The Significance of His Name
As has been noted, Pope Leo XIV chose his name to show continuity with Pope Leo XIII, who led the Church from 1878 to 1903, one of the longest pontificates in history. Leo is most known for his encyclical, Rerum Novarum, or the Rights and Duties of Capital and Labor, which laid out for the first time the rights of workers, including the right to organize. He is also known for elevating the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas and establishing his writings as the basis for understanding and teaching the Catholic faith.
There are some Mother of God connections to Pope Leo XIII. If you look at the great window on the western side of the church, you note that it is commemorating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin into Heaven. Toward the bottom of the window are three theologians, including one pope. The Pope is Leo XIII, who wrote much on Marian theology and who explicitly wrote concerning the assumption of Mary, body and soul into heaven.
As you walk into Mother of God Church, there is a special shrine to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, including an image of her. This image was given to Fr. William Tappert and to Mother of God Church at a private audience that Fr. Tappert had with Pope Leo XIII.
