On the First Sunday of Lent, the Church celebrates the Rite of Election. At this ceremony, on Sunday afternoon, March 9, those men and women who have been preparing to receive the Easter sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) will meet with Bishop Iffert, who will accept them as those who will be welcomed into the Catholic Church at Easter. Known up until now as catechumens and candidates, they will now be known as the Elect. We will have a brief ceremony at the 11:30 am Mass to send them to the bishop for the Rite of Election.
