rite of sending stirs up joy

Sunday, Feb. 22, was a special day for Mother of God parish and the candidates and catechumens who have been preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church since last fall. They were formally presented to the congregation by Fr. Mike Comer, Deacon Brian Cox, and pastoral associate Mary Ann Kelly at the 11:30 am Mass, after which their sponsors testified to their readiness to begin this last stage of their journey. They were then sent off to Bishop Iffert who received them during the Rite of Election at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption later that afternoon.

This group of candidates and catechumens is the largest we've had for many years, which has generated a spirit of excitement and hope for the future of the Church. We look forward to celebrating their entrance into full communion with the assembly at the Easter Vigil.
