Meg Booker wows audience

Meg Booker, whom most of you know as the organist and music minister at Mother of God's 9:30 am Sunday Mass, showed everyone who attended her concert on May 17 another side of her considerable talent.

Accompanied on piano by Dr. Christina Seal, a faculty member at Northern Kentucky University, Meg presented "Songs for a Spring Afternoon," which included selections from Wolfgang Mozart, Charles Gounod, Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers and more.

Meg is currently working on her master's degree in vocal performance at the University of Louisville. She has won prizes in multiple international competitions, including First Prize in the New York International Music Competition, First Prize in the NKU Philharmonic Concerto Competition (two years in a row) and an Encouragement Award in the Matinee Musicale Scholarship Competition. She has also been accepted to the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (HPAF) this summer. HPAF alumni have gone on to perform on some of the world's most prestigious stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, English National Opera, Royal Opera House, Florida Grand Opera and Los Angeles Opera. Their talents also shine in film and television, on Broadway, in national tours, and on regional stages across the US.

Said David Ziser, who attended the concert, "It was an exhilarating afternoon filled with joy, emotion and more than a few 'goosebump' moments. Meg has the remarkable ability to connect emotionally with the music. She doesn't just sing the notes. She brings every song to life. When she started her opening number, I could actually feel tears beginning to well up in my eyes."

The afternoon concluded with a well-deserved standing ovation for both Meg and Dr. Seal. It was truly an unforgettable musical experience and an afternoon not to be missed.
