in remembrance—steve durkee

Deacon Steve Durkee
Steve Durkee was a gentle-spoken, thoughtful man, but he was also a quiet force for good in the lives of all who knew him. A husband, father, teacher, coach, licensed counselor, deacon and friend—he took on all these roles with humility, love and an abiding faith in God. So, it is with great sadness that we acknowledge his passing on July 22.

Mother of God Church was blessed to know him as a parishioner and deacon from 1999 to 2015. During his time here, he married couples, baptized children and adults, visited the sick, and helped so many of us grow in our faith. He also was a tremendous support to Fr. Ray Hartman, especially in his later years as pastor.

Following Fr. Hartman’s retirement, Steve went on to serve as a deacon at St. John the Evangelist Church and St. Ann Mission in Covington.

We offer our deepest sympathy to Steve’s wife, Kathy, his daughters Paige and Stephanie, and all his family.

Visitation will be from 9-11 am, Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial.
