The Gospel for this week is the story of Jesus, and then, Peter, walking on water. The Twelve were in their boat, crossing the Sea of Galilee. A strong storm blew up and was tossing the boat, and they feared they were going to drown. Suddenly they saw a man walking on the water, who they believed was a ghost. Soon they recognized that it was the Lord.

Peter shouted out, “Lord, if it is you, call to me and I will come to you.” Jesus said, “Come.” He got out of the boat and began walking on the water toward Jesus. At first, he was doing fine, but then he looked at the raging sea, and panicked. He began to sink, and shouted out the most perfect prayer ever, “Lord, save me.” Jesus reached out and took his hand, and the two walked back to the boat. It may seem that Peter failed, but he didn’t.
    
The others may have gotten a kick out of seeing Peter in this crisis, but Peter actually walked on water, and none of them did. Other than Jesus, there is no written record of any other person in history to have done so. As long as Peter had kept his eyes on Jesus, he was fine. When he began to focus on his problems, he began to sink. We are the same way. When we focus on our problems, we are lost. When we focus on Jesus, He will take us through.
