Elijah was one of the great Prophets of Israel. He fell out of favor with Jezebel, the evil queen who sent her troops to capture Elijah and kill him. He fled into the desert, went up on the mountain and took shelter in a cave. God told him to go to the mouth of the cave and wait, for He would be passing by. Elijah did so, and he heard a strong driving wind that was crushing the rock, but God was not in the wind. Next, there was a powerful earthquake, but God was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there was fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a tiny whispering sound. and Elijah covered his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.
    
God does not shout. We need to learn how to listen to His voice. This means that we must sit in silence and wait for Him. He will speak to us when He is ready. But we must become inwardly quiet to hear Him.
