"I will give you rest"

On Friday, March 6, we celebrate the World Day of Prayer. This day was designated by an ecumenical, worldwide group of Christian women, starting in the 1800s. It is intended to commemorate the unique struggles of women and children throughout the world and our need to stand in solidarity with them. Each year, women from a different country prepare a service that reflects their spiritual journey and unique culture. For 2026, the women of Nigeria have authored a service with the theme "I Will Give You Rest: Come (Matthew 11: 28-30)." Fittingly, given the state of our world, it emphasizes our need for God's peace and solace amid life's burdens, including shame, systemic oppression, religious persecution, poverty and despair.

Let us take some time on Friday to join with our sisters throughout the world in this worthy prayer.
