St. Monica and St. Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

On Tuesday the Church celebrates the feast of St. Monica, and on Wednesday, she celebrates the feast of Monica's son, St. Augustine. Augustine is one of the two most important theologians that the Church has ever known. He lived a bit of a libertine lifestyle before his conversion to the Catholic faith. He credited the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, for his conversion.

The Passion of St. John the Baptist

The feast of the Passion of St. John the Baptist is this Thursday. John, Jesus’ cousin, and the prophet that prepared the way for the coming of Jesus, was beheaded by King Herod, because of his illicit marriage to his brother’s wife. John’s death became preparation for the death of Christ.
