May is the month of Mary. Also, October, being the month of the Holy Rosary, is the month of Mary, but May is more focused on Mary herself. Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant, who bore in her womb the Son of God, the Savior of the World. So that she would be worthy of bearing the Christ Child, she was kept free from all sin (the Immaculate Conception) and conceived and gave birth to her Son through the Virgin Birth. She remained part of Jesus’ life, as we see her as He performs His first miracle at the wedding feast of Cana. She is standing by the road to Calvary, as Jesus walks by carrying His Cross. She stands at the foot of the Cross with St. John and Mary Magdalen. And when He is taken down from the Cross, He is placed in her arms (the Pieta).
