confession is a gift to us

Lent is a penitential season, in which we are called to refocus our relationship with God, expressing our sorrow for how we have disobeyed Him and wounded Him, and wounded others. It is important for us to use the Sacrament of Reconciliation, especially if we have committed any serious sins.

Why do we confess our sins to a priest? In the account of Jesus’ appearance to the Apostles in the Upper Room on that first Easter night, we are told that He breathed on them, and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them. Whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” In this encounter, Jesus gave to His Apostles, and to their successors, the authority to forgive sins in His name.

We have confessions every Tuesday and Saturday at 11 am. Please make time to go to confession during the Lenten or Easter season.
