meet richard bruns

You may have noticed a new face assisting during the Sunday liturgies at Mother of God. Richard "Dick" Bruns is our new sacristan, taking over for Caroline Olberding, who previously served the parish in that capacity.
Dick comes to us from St. Susanna parish in Mason, OH, where he was a sacristan and Eucharistic minister at the 7:30 am Sunday Mass. He also substituted as an usher and server and visited Central Parke Memory Care home in the area to distribute communion to Catholic residents.
After working in the information technology field for 40 years, he retired and decided to move closer to family in Northern Kentucky. Now he volunteers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in their surgical waiting area where he escorts parents to their child's recovery area. "I answer the families' questions and fulfill their requests while their children are in surgery," he explains.
Dick also volunteers at St. Elizabeth Hospice, organizing the kitchenette, break room, waiting area and chapel for the patients and families. He stocks patient rooms with care supplies used by nurses, visits with patients who otherwise would not have visitors and helps feed them when nurses request it.
In addition, he works with the Blessed Sacrament St. Vincent de Paul pantry team, organizing donations gathered from the school and the community and assembling grocery bags of non-perishable food for clients requesting aid.
Dick has ties to Mother of God. He is a cousin to Bridget Kaiser Munday, who is actively involved in the With One Heart Implementation Team, faith formation and the Young Adult ministry. It's clear that having a servant's heart runs in the family.
