prayer is powerful medicine

The Prayer Team is our newest ministry at Mother of God, and so far, we have about 35-40 members. This is a ministry that anyone can do, regardless of physical ability, financial status or time constraints. We recently asked the team why they volunteered to be part of this endeavor. Here is what one member said:
I signed up because I’ve witnessed, felt and experienced the power of prayer. I joined the prayer team so that others might feel/witness and realize the power of prayer in their lives.
Previously, I’ve prayed for people at night in bed; I’ve always said the rosary at night, but when my son was diagnosed in November of 2021 with pancreatic cancer, I began to pray with a new intensity, a new purpose. I begin to pray throughout the day, not just at night.
I witnessed the power of prayer every day as my son battled his cancer. I remember when my son told me that 200 people were praying for him and how blessed that made him feel!
When the oncologist first met with my son, he told him that “20% of people make it to one year with this diagnosis,” and he told my son that he had one patient who had made it that far. My son battled pancreatic cancer for 22 months before he passed. I totally believe it was the power of prayer that gave him the strength and the courage and the will to last that long.
I have a friend (non-Catholic) who says: “When prayers go up, blessings come down.” We, as a prayer team, have no idea how many people we may be helping. That’s the beauty of prayer.
