We Share in Jesus' Resurrection
April 6, 2025
We continue to read from Year A, due to those preparing for baptism at Easter. On the Third Sunday of Lent, we heard the account of Jesus and the woman at the well. The water from the well became a symbol of the living waters of baptism that spring up within us, so that we do not thirst for the rest of our lives. On the Fourth Sunday of Lent, we heard the story of the man born blind, who was told to wash in the waters of Siloam, which symbolize the healing waters of baptism that wash away our sins and our spiritual blindness.
Today we hear the story of the raising of Lazarus, which does not include the image of water but shows that through baptism we are born again. We who were dead in our sin are given new life through Jesus Christ. When we go into the waters of baptism, we die with Christ, and as we emerge from the baptismal waters, we rise with Him. For those who have been baptized, we have already begun the Risen Life.
