What Would You Ask For?
July 26, 2026
In this week’s Gospel, God invites King Solomon to ask for absolutely anything. His response pleased the Lord very much. Rather than seeking wealth or power, he asked for a wise heart that would allow him to justly and effectively lead the people of Israel.
What would you ask for if you were given this same promise? Don’t just say what you know you should ask for. Look within yourself and ask yourself what you would really want above and beyond anything else. Let this exercise reveal yourself to yourself.
Would God approve of your request? If granted, how would this gift impact your relationship with God? With your family and friends? With the world around you?
This little meditation exercise could really reveal you to yourself. Self-knowledge (what St. Theresa of Avila called humility) is the beginning of holiness.
