Please Support Amendment 2
Sept. 22, 2024
In the upcoming elections, there will be an amendment to the Kentucky Constitution to be voted on. That amendment will allow the legislature and governor of Kentucky to enact laws that would give financial assistance to not only public schools, but also to private schools and Catholic schools. The present Constitutional language does not allow that to happen. Kentucky is one of only two states in the country that does not allow some funding for private and Catholic schools.
This amendment does not designate any moneys for private and Catholic education, but only allows the legislature and the governor to do so. It also states that public schools must be fully funded by the state and actually expands the support for public schools.
Amendment 2 will give parents more power in choosing what schools and what kind of education is best for their children. It recognizes that private and religious education schools do not intend to be competition to the public schools, but that they are partners in educating our children.
Please support Amendment 2 when you go to the polls on election day.
