Jesus Is the Vine
April 28, 2024
Last Sunday our Gospel proclaimed Jesus to be the Good Shepherd, and we are His flock. This week He tells us that He is the vine, and we are the branches. Both of these images are very relational. He is describing the relationship that He has with His followers.
A branch that has been cut off from the vine will die very quickly. The vine depends on the branch to provide water and nutrition to the vine, and in turn, to the grapes. Apart from Christ, our vine, we will wither and die and produce no fruit.
We seek to be as united to Christ as possible and to seek grace, our spiritual nourishment from prayer and from the sacraments.
